Little Rock police officers gather at the McMath Library parking lot shortly after a juvenile suspect in a carjacking ran from an officer in the area.
A juvenile carjacking suspect was caught late Thursday morning after running from an officer who stopped him and was searching him near McMath Library in Little Rock.
It happened about 11:30 a.m.
Little Rock Police Department Sgt. Cassandra Davis said an officer stopped the 16-year-old while he was walking near the library because he matched the description of a carjacking suspect.
The officer began a pat-down search of the teen and discovered he was armed with a handgun. The teen reportedly got away from the officer and ran, prompting a search of the neighborhoods and wooded areas surrounding the library.
He was caught a short time later and the weapon was also recovered, Davis said. She said she didn't immediately have information on the carjacking itself.
Numerous police vehicles, including several K9 units, were on scene at the library and in the surrounding neighborhood shortly before noon.
