A pickup struck two people walking on a Woodruff County highway, killing one and injuring the other.

It happened about 6:45 p.m. Thursday on County Road 415 in McCrory, authorities said.

According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Marcus and Stephanie Morgan, both 36, of McCrory, were walking north in the southbound traffic lane about a mile south of U.S. 64B when they were hit by a northbound Chevy pickup.

Stephanie Morgan was dead at the scene, the report said. Marcus Morgan was taken to White County Medical Center in Searcy with unspecified injuries.

The pickup driver was not hurt.

The death was at least the 70th in a traffic accident on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
