Springdale parochial school closing, cites money

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 8, 2013 at 5:15 p.m.

— A parochial school in Springdale that serves students in pre-kindergarten through seventh grade is to close at the end of the school year.

St. Raphael School said Friday that the facility has been subsidized by the Catholic church but couldn’t muster the enrollment or money to continue.

The Rev. John Connell and Principal Karen LaMendola informed staff, parents and parishioners of the decision. They said the decision was made in consultation with Bishop Anthony B. Taylor of the Little Rock Diocese and the state superintendent for Catholic schools, Vernell Bowen.

St. Raphael Church will still have a year-round program for children ages 3 and 4 and will hold a summer care program for elementary school students.
