Malvern wins girls 4A state title

The Malvern Lady Leopards defeated the Prairie Grove Tigers, 33-32, on Saturday afternoon at Barton Coliseum to win the girls 4A state title.

Malvern's Akasha Westbrook was named the game's most valuable player.

Prairie Grove took a 22-21 lead into the fourth quarter and led the game, 32-31 with less than 20 seconds remaining. However, the Lady Leopards were able to overcome the deficit in the final moments.

Malvern led the game at the half, 12-11.

Malvern, the No. 1 seed from the south, made its way to the championship round by defeating Heber Springs and Star City. Prairie Grove was the No. 1 seed out of the north, and defeated Brookland and Valley View to earn a spot in the title game.
