WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said he's reaching out to lawmakers from both parties in hopes of untangling the gridlock that has stymied progress on budget issues in Washington.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said he's talking with Republicans about ways to replace the automatic spending cuts that took effect March 1. He said immigration reform and gun control are other areas where he's hopeful Democrats and Republicans can find common ground.
He said even though unemployment fell to 7.7 percent last month, expanding the economy is still his top priority.
In the Republican address, Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama said he's worried that Senate Democrats will unveil a budget next week that won't curb the nation's debt. He's insisting that lawmakers balance the federal budget.

Good luck, Mr. President....The GOP would rather see America fail than work with you. They seethe when they see a rising stock market and declining unemployment. They hate that their party is becoming increasingly irrelevant. And, yes...many are angry that a mixed race person is POTUS.
Godspeed anyway, sir.

Lets see now. This is his 5th year in office and he is just now reaching out to lawmakers in both parties to accomplish something. I've got a grandson who is in the 9th grade and he asked me last year why the president couldn't sit down with both sides and get something done.

The media is beginning to see the "Blame Bush" strategy is getting ridiculous. Plus he's a duck out of water and doesn't know what he's doing since he's never had a job or run a business. He's got to reach out so he can blame SOMEBODY when the country goes down as a result of his policies.

Gosh T6
I didn't realize the Country was going down since Bush.
My lying eyes had me convinced that the country was slowly improving since Bush, in spite of the Republican obstructionism. If we aren't better off as a country since the day Bush left, then I would have to agree with you, but all my senses tell me otherwise.
Why don't the Republican faithful get their head out of the sand and see how good this Country could be if only the Republicans wanted it to be. I suppose that the Republicans will become America first once that dark skinned interloper gets out of office.

Obama tried at first in his first term to reach out to Republicans but they spit in face at every turn. I'm surprised he is willing to try again.

T6......... In the beginning the earth was a great place to live, no polution, no greed, no hate, no wars, then humans showed up and things got bad, then one of those humans became a conservative and things wet to hell in a handbasket real quick.

BillSmith........It's gestimated to be around that. That's one of the things that Bible scholars and others have debated forever. God's time is not our time. God's day is like a thousand years. God didn't specify a date when he created the Heavens and the Earth. Just as there is no specific date when Jesus was born. Because it wasn't important WHEN he was born, it was important WHY he was born. I do not believe Mankind was big banged into existence.

Cut spending, reduce the debt. What is the Presidents plan?? His last plans in the past four years did not have a single vote for.

BillSmith.... In the beginning things were perfect UNTIL the "First Liberal" Satan had to ruin it for EVERYBODY and caused greed, hate, wars.

The Liar in Chief is at it again...He has no intention of "working" with Republicans, or Dems for that matter, that don't agree with his warped view of the world and the US role in it. He has no intentions of reducing spending, of any kind or by any amount. He loves unemployment, because it makes more people rely on him and his ever-expanding Federal Govenment for their basic day-to-day needs.

Grim Reaper says djigoo needs to get back on his meds. But whatever he's taking, or not taking, I'll have the same. Seems to me he summed things up rather well.
GOP obstructionism pretty much destroys the whole idea of politics aa negotiation and compromise. In my 70 years of following politics (I'm 83) I've never seen anything like the curent ugliness. Sort of negates the whole idea of representative democracy.

The most absurd statement in this rather biased news article (print version) was that "the [Republican] lawmakers cautioned that years of hurt feelings were unlikely to heal simply because Obama dined last week with Republican lawmakers."
Hurt feelings!
I can't stand it.

T6 says "he's never had a job." Being a lawyer, a college teacher, a state legislator, and yes, a community organizer are not jobs?
What do you do, T6, that's so important to the human race? Do you manufacture rhinestone collars for dogs, or automatic rifles, or junk food?

johnycf..... you need to tell your grandson that Mitch McConnell said the "most important thing he wanted to do was insure that Obama was a one term president". Ask him just how he would work with someone like that to get things done. But Mr. McConnell will meet his waterloo in 2016 against Ashley Judd.

There's no comparison between a REAL woman like Sarah and the basket case Ashley Judd.

Oh yes, HotSpringsLawyer.... Ms.Judd is concerned with the killing of wildlife but not so much about killing unborn babies. I don't care for Mitch McConnell but Ms. Judd doesn't have snowballs chance of beating him. She's against COAL, a major job creator in Kentucky.
Yep BillSmith..... Ms. Judd has bared all her glory in front of millions. She's bared her breast, had raunchy sex scenes, and had a lesbian sex scene.
Sarah Palin has much to much respect for herself to sell her soul that way.

BillSmith says... March 13, 2013 at 12:06 a.m.
T6...... FYI.... If she runs, Judd would be challenging Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who just happens to be the least popular Senator in the country. According to a Public Policy Poll released in December, McConnell has just a 37 percent approval rating--with 55 percent disapproval--among Kentucky voters.
In a hypothetical match-up with against the five-term Senator, Judd trailed by just a few points 47 to 43, in the same poll.

Yeah, BillSmith.... I could see the low information voters that voted in Obama would vote for someone like Ashley Judd.
