Arkansas lawmakers are preparing for a deadline to file bills as they begin the ninth week of this year’s legislative session.
Nearly 2,000 proposals have been filed by House and Senate lawmakers for this year’s session. Monday is the deadline to file bills, though lawmakers are permitted to submit blank proposals that can be filled in later.
Also — House Speaker Davy Carter said the House on Monday would not take up a voter-ID bill that has already passed the Senate. The measure would require voters to show photo identification before they cast a ballot.
Opponents of the measure argue that the bill needs a two-thirds supermajority to pass the Legislature under a provision of the state constitution regarding voter registration.
