A driver and a passenger died Sunday after their car veered across Interstate 30 in Clark County and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Arkansas State Police say it happened just after 12:15 p.m. about a mile west of the Reynolds Road exit south of Arkadelphia.

According to a preliminary report, a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by 21-year-old Tyler Carter was heading east on the highway when it veered out of control, into the median and then into the westbound lanes.

There, the car was struck by a westbound Volvo S80.

Carter and a passenger in the Corolla, 19-year-old Donovan Fernandez, died from unspecified injuries.

A second passenger in the Corolla and the Volvo driver were taken to Baptist Hospital in Arkadelphia. The extent of their injuries wasn't included in the report.

The report says the wreck happened in rainy conditions.

With the two deaths in the wreck Sunday, there have been at least 75 fatalities in traffic crashes in the state so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
