Little Rock-based Windstream Corp. said Monday that it has appointed Jeffrey T. Hinson as its next chairman of the board.
Hinson's term will start May 1, the communications company said in a statement, adding that he qualifies as an independent director. Windstream separates the positions of chief executive officer and board chairman.
"Jeff Hinson has served as a director of Windstream since it was formed in 2006, and he has deep knowledge of the company and our industry," Windstream President and CEO Jeff Gardner said in the statement. "In addition, his service on the boards of other public companies in diverse industries gives him unique insight into matters of corporate governance and allows him to offer a broad perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing Windstream."
Hinson succeeds Dennis Foster, board chairman since 2010. Foster will remain on the board and will serve on the board's compensation committee helmed by Samuel "Sandy" Beall III.
Windstream also announced that Francis "Skip" Frantz will lead the board's audit committee effective May 1, a post Hinson has held since 2010 but will exit with his new role.
The new appointments "are in keeping with the board's practice of reviewing the chairman and committee chairman positions for rotation after a three-year term," the company said.
