A 16-year-old sophomore at Bryant High School has been arrested in the armed robbery of a RadioShack last week.
The Bryant Police Department says the teen was arrested Monday in the March 5 robbery of the store at 307 Bryant Ave.
Sgt. Todd Crowson said the student was arrested without incident at school and later confessed.
"I think he told the investigators he just needed some money," Crowson said.
The suspect's name was not released because he is a minor, though Crowson said it's possible he will be tried as an adult and his information will be made public. He will face charges of aggravated robbery and theft of property.
It wasn't clear how the teen became a suspect. The police department said investigators and school resource officers worked together on the case.
The store was held up about 7:30 p.m. by a robber wearing a hoodie and camouflage mask and armed with a gun. He left after getting an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

Lock him up for 20 years. Armed robbery? 16? What if the store owner had resisted and been killed? Maybe the death penalty would be in order.

Superduty, I think I remember from the original article that he is white. Which doesn't make any difference in the punishment he should receive.

White or black and 16, he is old enough to know better than to rob any store. He needs to serve time in prison and consider himself lucky he wasn't shot and killed. Hard punishment is the only way to handle such stupidity.

People...people...this poor young person needs some expensive youth self-esteem program so that he can become a contributing member of society.....oops..had a senior moment....lock this bastard up and give him hard time. Maybe he'll learn. But if he's given some feel-good social program treatment when he tries this again the store employee will pull a bigger gun and blow him to hell, saving us taxpayers some money.

This young man should receive some type of penalty for his crime but bc of his skin color, he'll get a harsher penalty. A Caucasian supervisor in Ward, AR shot and killed one of his African American employees in his home during a business meeting at point blank range. What did the supervisor get charged with...Manslaughter! Not to mention that te supervisor pulled the trigger a second time after it didn't discharge the first time. Did I mention he was also trained in weaponry from the military as well? Oh!! But again, I agree that there needs to be a penalty for this young man, but we know it will be much harsher than if this was a white on black crime.

Many white criminals get their hands slapped and these guys don't complain. I don't think the Game and Fish Commissioner who terrorized a family did any time. I guess Drs01 thinks that he would have become a doctor if he had grown up in a crack house. While you must punish criminals, many of them would have had different lives had they grown up in a decent home or orphanage.

Hey kimira - "but we know it will be much harsher than if this was a white on black crime." Would you mind providing your source for this statement? Or are you just spouting off nonsense? What reliable study shows that white on black crime receives less severe punishment than black on white crime, white on white crime, black on black crime, or any mixture of the races thereof? In the absence of a reliable source, you are merely perpetuating an urban myth.
Hey Populist - Please know if the Game and Fish guy gets his hands slapped, I will complain. However, as a self-proclaimed attorney, you better than anyone should understand the concept of innocent until proven guilty. The Game and Fish goober hasn't done any time because he hasn't yet had a trial. And based on your post to drs, are you saying punishment should be predicated on where a person's youth was spent?

I hope they don't try this kid as an adult if the school resource representative says he's a troubled student... A humans brain has not fully developed enough to think things through properly until a person reaches the age if 18.. That's why we must consider this is a sixteen year old, unstable teenager, who made a very bad choice.. He needs punishment.. (Boot Camp) & depending on the circumstances may need firm guidance, not prison.. It will just depend on the entire situation of the kid..

Thanks Massuh Red for "Wisdom" from the man in No Place (so he unconsciously hints) and who practices what he preaches about half measures. Enough of taking out the garbage for now.
I'll agree that race is a problem when it comes to fairness in sentencing and that skin color is the least important thing when it comes to traits possessed by a stupid criminal. Still, if you're too stupid to realize the deck is gonna be stacked against you when you do something idiotic, then a pity party aint in the works as far as I'm concerned.

Ernest Hoskins Jr is the case in Ward, AR which is a very recent and clear example. Or the 19 yo, Riakos Lizana, African American, that was charged with capital murder in Arkadelphia, AR against a Caucasian man and his 2 step daughters. Need I go on? I can. All crimes should be punished and both crimes listed were severe. However the punishments were not the same. I just ask that the law is looked at and administered the same.
