North Little Rock police on Tuesday charged a fourth person in the fatal robbery of a convenience store clerk, a news release from the department states.
According to the release, 20-year-old Rosten Sentel Martin, of North Little Rock, was charged for his involvement in the Sept. 22 robbery and shooting of Akiya Egeston, 29, of Little Rock, at the EZ Mart on MacArthur Drive. Egeston, a mother of two, was working as a clerk at the store when she was killed.
Police said Jacobi Deandre Robinson, 20, of Jacksonville, has admitted to shooting Egeston. Davion Lakeith Howard, 19, and Maclin Daimon Rogers, 20, both of Jacksonville, have also been charged for their involvement in the robbery. Robinson and Rogers are scheduled to stand trial separately in May. Howard was admitted to the State Hospital on March 6 after state doctors diagnosed him with mild mental retardation and deemed him unfit to proceed.
Court filings say Martin helped plan the holdup and drove the defendants to the store, then waited outside while the other three went into the store.

I don't understand why clerks aren't protected in these convenience stores. The armed robberies are endemic in urban areas, so the clerks should be behind bullet-resistent glass and securely segregated from customers. If someone shoplifts or gas skips, the clerk can call the police. I don't think the clerks are required to run down thiefs now, are they? We'll probably have to pass a law, because apparently, the business interests involved don't care squat for their employees lives.
