First pass-through of storm debris collection nearing end

A first pass through Little Rock by crews working to pick up storm debris left by the Christmas night winter storm is nearing completion, officials said Wednesday.

The city of Little Rock said in a statement that the first pass-through should be done this week. It will immediately be followed by a second pass-through of the entire city.

"The City encourages citizens to bring any remaining debris from the storm event out to the curb as soon as possible to avoid being missed" in the second pass-through, the city said. "Residents do not need to call 311 to have their storm debris picked up."

Ceres Environmental is conducting the collection. The company was hired after a FEMA disaster declaration allocated federal funds for the cleanup.

The storm left an estimated 22,000 tons of fallen trees and branches.

Maps showing parts of the city where debris has been picked up already in the first pass-through are available on the city website.

Residents can also drop off storm debris between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Reservoir Park or Interstate Park.
