The toddler who was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene at a Sherwood apartment complex has died, authorities said Wednesday.
The 3-year-old boy, identified by police as Jaylen Diggs, was hit Monday night at Park Crest Apartments on Manson Road.
Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobbs said Jaylen died about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday at Arkansas Children's Hospital, where he had been listed in critical condition.
The hit-and-run vehicle is described as a red sport utility vehicle. No arrests have been made.
Sherwood Police Department Capt. Kel Nicholson said investigators are depending on witnesses to come forward with information.
"We're still looking for help from the public," he said. "We're still out there trying to knock on every door."
Nicholson said the vehicle may or may not have damage on it. No pieces of it were found at the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at (501) 835-1425.

Parents PLEASE watch your kids and keep them off the parking lots and roads. This is tragic but preventable.

I was wondering where the parent(s) were too, they are not mention. The driver did an awful thing hitting the child and then running away, but where were the people watching the child.

My thoughts, exactly. Where were the parents or person(s) responsible for the child. Another article stated that it happened at 7:00 p.m. Why would a 3-year-old be out playing at 7:00 p.m.? No one wants to blame a parent in a tragic situation like this, but . . . .
