Jacksonville police will hold "Citizen's Policy Academy" classes beginning in April to help area residents better understand the police department and its many roles, the department announced Thursday in a news release.

The classes, which begin April 16, will include an introduction to different areas of law enforcement such as community policing, criminal investigations, patrol duties, use of force and firearms.

The department announced the class in a press release Thursday afternoon.

The eight-week class will be from 6-9 p.m. nightly and is free to attend. Attendance will be limited to those who live or work inside the city limits and are over the age of 18.

Those who would like to attend must fill out an application at the police department headquarters, located at 1400 Marshall Road, or online at www.cityofjacksonville.net. All applications must received by April 5. Attendance will be limited.

For more information, contact Sgt. Amanda Chapman at (501) 982-3191.
