Senator John McCain of Arizona listens during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Admiral William Fallon's nomination to be commander of the U.S. Central Command, in this 2007 file photo in Washington, D.C.

Sen. John McCain will give a public lecture this week as part of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service's ongoing speaker program.

McCain, an Arizona Republican who was the Republican nominee for president in 2008, will "discuss current affairs in the United States and abroad" during an hour-long speech Friday at Sturgis Hall. It begins at 6 p.m.

McCain served 22 years in the U.S. Navy and spent more than five years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. He is in his fifth term in the U.S. Senate.

Seats can be reserved by e-mailing publicprograms@clintonschool.uasys.edu or by calling (501) 683-5239

To bad the former POW has now decided that it is better to disarm his fellow countrymen (and women). A government that wishes to disarm it's citizens, is NOT wanting to help those citizens, but, rather enslave them.

Regardless of what you think of his politics, McCain is one of the greatest heroes in American history. As the Woody Allen joke goes...All the enemy would have to do to me is take away my charge cards, and I would tell them everything.

Didn't another one of our heroes, George W. Bush, fly missions with Weathervane McCain in Nam a while back?

Gives the local Demoretards an outing. McCain is about as Republican as my two pet goats.

He should speak at McCain Mall. It's old and irrelevant, too.
