Child-pornography case nets 60-year term

An El Dorado man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to child-pornography charges, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said.

George Alan Haile, 56, was sentenced late last week to 10 years in prison for each of six counts of distributing, possessing or viewing sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

The arrest came after agents with the Attorney General's Cyber Crimes Unit searched Haile's residence in September. Authorities said they discovered multiple images of child pornography on a laptop seized from the home.

"This man used the Internet to exploit our children," McDaniel said in a statement. "With this 60-year prison sentence, he will be unable to any longer. The people of Arkansas deserve to know that this type of criminal is no longer a danger to our children."

Haile remains at the Union County jail pending his transfer to the Arkansas Department of Correction.
