Mexican Consulate gives grant to UAMS

The Mexican Consulate in Little Rock on Thursday gave a $35,000 grant from the Mexican government to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Public Health to continue a health program.
At an 11 a.m. news conference, Mexican Consul David Preciado presented the check to UAMS Chancellor Dan Rahn and Jim Raczynski, dean of the university's College of Public Health.
The UAMS College of Public Health and the Mexican Consulate established the program, called Ventanillas de Salud, in 2010. Officials say the new grant will allow the Mexican government to extend its partnership with UAMS to provide health information and health screenings to Mexicans living in Arkansas.
“We are proud to be given the opportunity to extend our health services to this swiftly expanding segment of our community,” Rahn said a news release. “Programs and colleges at UAMS are continually finding ways to reach into the community like never before, and this is another prime example of those efforts to ensure that all Arkansans have access to health services.”

Great move to help fund a much-needed program. The Mexican consulate has been a good neighbor for the state.

Too bad Dan and Jim couldn't be bothered to hire a qualified US citizen to run it, much less an Arkansan.
