Winter storm warnings, advisories set for parts of north Arkansas

This National Weather Service map shows the parts of Arkansas under a winter weather advisory Thursday, March 21, 2013.
Winter storm warnings and advisories are set for more than a dozen counties in northern and northeastern Arkansas.
The storm system is expected to drop snow amounts mostly between 1 and 3 inches through the overnight hours in an area north of a line from Harrison to Marshall to Batesville to Newport. The National Weather Service said some places from Mountain Home to Salem southeast toward Hardy and Batesville could see as much as 4 inches, though that's "not expected to be common nor widespread."
Randolph, Clay, Lawrence, Greene, Craighead and Poinsett counties are under a winter storm warning that will run Thursday night through 7 a.m. Friday. Those counties could see up to 5 inches of snow, the weather service said.
Baxter, Boone, Cross, Crittenden, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Marion, Mississippi, Searcy, Sharp and Stone counties are under winter storm advisories that run Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning.
The snow is expected to transition to rain Thursday night with some patchy freezing rain possible early Friday.
Central and southern Arkansas may seem a "brief period of sleet as precipitation begins," but it will then shift to all rain, the weather service said.
