The Arkansas House has approved legislation to prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors.
The House voted 76-8 to pass a bill calling for a $100 fine on anyone who gives or sells a so-called "e-cigarette" to a person who is younger than 18 years old. The measure also prohibits minors from possessing the products.
E-cigarettes are battery-operated devices that heat a liquid nicotine cartridge, producing a vapor that users inhale.
Supporters of the bill say electronic cigarettes should be regulated like traditional cigarettes since they contain nicotine. They say that the devices are increasingly popular among young people and are heavily marketed to minors.
House Democratic Leader Rep. Greg Leding of Fayetteville is sponsoring the measure.

I appreciate the fine, upstanding Representatives and Senators in office, but..... The moral policing has gotten a little extreme. Take your time, breathe a little, you have the rest of this session and another year on your term to save the world. The world did not get this depraved overnight and you can't cure it completely in 3 months. I just wish I would read where the House is working on something fiscal or important rather than what "sin of the day" they are trying to cure. I am a Christian and agree with where they are going, I am just afraid alot of them will be going out of office due to the constant barrage of correction of our sins going on.

Hog fan is exactly right. How about doing some business and getting a little bit away from legislating morality. It is not possible to legislate morality, all trying does is make criminals of people that don't believe the same particular moral code you do. Lets get down to business and work on some important things for a change! Stop the insanity of attempting to convert us all to your beliefs!

Being someone who smoked 40 years before quitting, I am not opposed to this type of legislation as this is more of a health issue than a moral one. The tobacco companies need someway to hook our kids on nicotine and these elctric weeds is one way.

I was wondering, is nicorette gum available to minors? Let's say a 15 year old somehow came to be a heavy smoker and he needs help to quit, would nicorette gum available to him? How about a electronic cigarette to help him come off cigarettes? I don't know, there should be exceptions like if it's doctor recommended... It's a discussion at e-cigarette-review net

Are these the same reps who propped open the door of the Capitol hill building with an ashtray last week? The 49th state makes so much money off tobacco that they have more ashtrays on the Capitol grounds than Phillip Morris has at their headquarters
