Arkansas lawmakers have hatched a plan to market the home of Tyson Foods Inc. by declaring it the "Poultry Capital of the World."
The Senate on Thursday unanimously approved a bill that would give Springdale the new title. The name would be written into a section of state law that names Arkansas' official flower, motto and bird, among other matters.
The town of Cotter is named "Trout Capital of the U.S.A." in that section.
Republican Sen. Jon Woods of Springdale said a City Council member had approached him about the idea as a way to market the Northwest Arkansas city.
Woods says the proposal does not require any state funding.
The bill now heads to the state House for consideration.

"Poultry capitol of Arkansas" maybe... but despite what Mr. Raper and his cronies may think, they don't really have the jurisdiction to make a world-wide claim...

How about Pig farm capital of the world or Hillbilly capital of the world? Springdale leaders have the worst ideas to promote the city of any town I've ever seen. Come up with something that makes people want to visit!

Claims for silly things like this don't rely on jurisdiction, since they are just that...a claim. And where did this article mention jobs, other than they are implied because of the industry? Regardless of where you stand on such a trivial matter as "Poultry Capital", for such considerate, compassionate, all-caring, sensitive liberals, don't you think "swine" is a little harsh? Aren't you the party of compassion and inclusiveness? While I am neither Demogogue nor Repulsican, I do find it amusing the angst and gnashing of teeth brought on you Demogogues by the other party being in power for the first time since Reconstruction. Speaking of chicken, you remind me of the "Chicken Little" storyline, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!" What a hoot!

Ha, I am a democrat and I agree the democrats have not done a good job and I am sure there was some blue dog pigs as well, but this is no way for the other party to start their reign of power in the ledge either.
