Arsenal of weapons found in Newtown gunman's home

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 28, 2013 at 10:35 a.m.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — An arsenal of weapons including guns, more than a thousand rounds of ammunition, a bayonet and several swords was found in the home of the gunman who carried out the Newtown school shooting, according to search warrants released Thursday.

Adam Lanza killed 26 people inside Sandy Hook Elementary School and took his own life within five minutes of shooting his way into the building, State's Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III said in a statement accompanying the release of the warrants in the Dec. 14 massacre. Lanza was found dead in the school wearing military-style clothing.

The inventory of the evidence seized from Lanza's home and the car he drove to carry out the massacre provided glimpses into the world of a troubled young man, but it does not answer the question of what could have motivated the attack. Investigators say it will take until June or later to complete the investigation.

Sedensky said Lanza killed all 26 victims inside Sandy Hook Elementary School with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle before taking his own life with a Glock 10 mm handgun. He says Lanza had another loaded handgun with him inside the school as well as three, 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster.

Sedensky said 154 spent .223 casings were recovered at the scene. A loaded 12-gauge shotgun was found in the Honda Civic Lanza drove to the school with two magazines containing 70 rounds of Winchester 12-gauge shotgun rounds.

3 30 round mags and 154 spent casings means he reloaded his ar mags but he had 2 loaded pistols and only fired one shot from the handguns?

lazybar, you are correct this time. Hope you, T6, superduty, kcsap, jimbob47, letsberealistic, packman and all the rest of the conspiracy nuts now know the Bushmaster was the weapon used in this shooting. But, I am sure one or more of you will still believe the police are part of some greeeeat conspiracy with the government to take your guns away.

Would we be having this discussion if the federal ban on the manufacture and sale of military style assault weapons was not allowed to expire in 2004? Sadly, it appears that the unreasonable and powerful NRA lobby is gaining ground again in the current fight. I'm curious as to how many of those who oppose more extensive background checks for gun purchase may be in favor of the proposed new voter ID requirements.

Not the full story here : Police recovered nine 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster that Lanza took to the school. Three of the magazines had a full 30 rounds still in them.

arkborn,154 rounds out of 3 30 round mags means the shooter had to stop what he was doing and lay gun down, its nearly impossable to fill a 30rd mag one handed and on the move.the time it took to refill the mags debunks any theory of how fast a ar15 with a thirty rd mag can be shot vs multiple smaller mags.

All you seem to care about is exactly what guns and ammunition he used.
Don't you ask yourselves the question, how did this mentally ill young man acquire such an arsenal?
Also, what was his mother doing while this was happening? How could she have been completely unaware

This is what was said in the article on the kait8 website article.

"Lanza also had more ammunition for the weapons he had on his person as well as three, 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster, each of them containing 30 rounds. In the area of the shootings were six additional 30-round magazines and contained 0, 0, 0, 10, 11 and 13 live rounds, respectively. In total, 154 spent .223 casings were recovered from the scene and investigators believe that the shooting only lasted five minutes."
