Elsewhere in entertainment and the arts: ‘Stormy’ choreography

New Creation Dance Company, a central Arkansas-based professional dance ministry, will offer two performances this weekend of its new production, Stronger … Persevering Through Life’s Storms, 7 p.m. Friday at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, 7351 Warden Road, Sherwood, and 7 p.m. Saturday in the Ida Waldran Auditorium, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

The full-length, mixed-media production, based on the real-life story of a young woman “and her struggle to persevere through a tragic event that changed her life,” features choreography by members of the company and guest choreographer Paige Ghent, set to music by Mandisa, Mercy Me, Needtobreathe and Lifehouse.

Biblical housewives

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Promise Land Church Ministries will stage a play called Desperate Housewives of the Bible at 7 p.m. Saturday at its facilities at 4520 S. University Ave., Little Rock. Based on a novel by the same name, the play includes stories of biblical women ranging in temperament from Eve to Jezebel, “from a 21st-century perspective.” Admission is free. Call (318) 332-8040.

Creative Expressions

“Creative Expressions,” an exhibition of works by artists engaged in the Creative Expressions Program (a nonprofit organization that uses the visual arts to promote and support the self-awareness and growth of people with mental illness) at the Arkansas State Hospital, goes on display at 5 p.m. Friday at the Butler Center Galleries, 401President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. The opening is part of Second Friday Art Night. The exhibition will be up through Aug. 25.
