Meal and Free Concert

PANGBURN — The Pangburn High School Band will have a hot-dog and sausage meal from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Pangburn High School. The cost is $5 and includes an entree, chips, dessert and drink. Tickets can be bought from band students or at the door. A free spring concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Auditorium. The junior and senior bands, jazz band and junior and senior choirs will perform. Happenstance Concert

CONWAY — Happenstance, with Dan Clanton on guitar and vocals, Doug Coppock on guitar and vocals, and Brooks Walthall on bass and vocals, will perform at the Faulkner County Library at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Thomas Rug Race

CONWAY — The Central Arkansas Model Railroad Club will sponsor a Thomas toy-train rug-race contest Saturday at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 Tyler St. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and preliminary rounds will be at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Family teams, which include a parent and child, will race Thomas trains, which will be provided. Hobby-related prizes will be given to the winners and runners-up in three divisions. Extra points will be awarded to children who dress in train- or railroad-related clothing or accessories. UACCM Spring Commencement

MORRILTON — The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will hold its spring commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in H.B. White Auditorium at Morrilton High School. University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees member and former U.S. Sen. David Pryor plans to attend the 10 a.m. ceremony.

Plant Sale

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Master Gardeners will hold their 15th annual plant sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Antioch Baptist Church parking lot, 150 Amity Road. All proceeds will benefit college scholarships and local public projects. Master Gardeners and Janet Carson will be available to answer questions about gardening in Arkansas. Saturday Bingo

Hershey Track and Field Meet

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will hold the Hershey Track and Field Meet at 10 a.m. at the Russellville High School track. Flag-Retirement Ceremony

MAUMELLE — A flag-retirement ceremony, sponsored by the Maumelle Veterans Memorial Committee, will be held at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park at Lake Willastein. Centerville UMC Singing

CENTERVILLE — The Faulkner County Singing Club will meet with Centerville United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. The church is two miles east of Woolly Hollow State Park in northern Faulkner County. The club meets each second Sunday from September through May, and Centerville UMC is its host in May and October. The community is invited.

Special Worship Service

MAUMELLE — Pastor Tony Auxier and the congregation of First Baptist Church Maumelle invite the public to a special worship service at 10:15 a.m. All women will receive a gift, and the oldest mother in attendance will be honored. Sunday School for all ages is at 9 a.m., and evening worship is at 5 in the main sanctuary. The community is also invited to attend the Wednesday fellowship dinner and Bible study at 5 p.m. in the Activities Center. Retired Teachers Meeting

HEBER SPRINGS — The Cleburne County Retired Teachers will meet at noon at the Rustic Inn. Topics to be discussed include the new laws enacted by the 2013 Arkansas Legislature and how those laws affect the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System. Symphony Guild Brunch

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Symphony Guild will host its annual membership brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the home of Doris Lawrence, 135 Vanbrooks Lane. MORRILTON — The Sacred Heart School Bazaar will take orders for whole slow-smoked Boston butts through noon May 17. Each 8- to 10-pound Boston butt costs $30 and will feed 15 to 20 people. ATKINS — A Picklefest Pancake Breakfast will be held from 6:30-11 a.m. May 18 in the Atkins Catholic Church’s McKee Hall on U.S. 64. The menu will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, homemade pork sausage, coffee, orange juice and milk for $5 per person.

Bean Supper

PLUMERVILLE — The Plumerville Homecoming Committee will host its annual bean supper fundraiser on May 18. The menu consists of pinto beans, home-fried potatoes, slaw, cornbread, dessert and drink. Supper will be served from 4-7 p.m. in the WC Plummer Senior Center east of the Arch Ford Co-op. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12. Retired Teachers Association Meeting

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Retired Teachers Association will meet for a traditional potluck meal at 1:30 p.m. May 21 in the Activity Center of First Baptist Church. The program will include installation of 2013-2014 officers and a slide show of the association’s activities of 2012-2013. Anyone who has retired from any position in education is welcome to attend.
