HERNANDO, Miss. — A Memphis man faces up to 30 years in prison after his conviction in DeSoto County of assaulting a Southaven police officer.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Joshua Graham was convicted Tuesday of aggravated assault. Sentencing is May 21.

The Commercial Appeal reported that Officer Mitzi Stewart was on patrol last February when she spotted a car on the parking lot of a closed convenience store on U.S. 51.

According to police, after Stewart found marijuana in Graham's pants pocket, Graham hit her, jumped into his car and pulled off with her hanging out of the car door.

Stewart pulled herself into the car the fight continued. She then pepper-sprayed him, and held him at gunpoint until other officers arrived. Stewart suffered bruises, cuts and a broken nose.
