Newcomers Luncheon

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Newcomers’ monthly luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. at the Maumelle Country Club. This will be the final luncheon until September. The recipient of the Newcomers’ scholarship will be recognized, and new officers for 2013-14 will be inducted.

Exploring the Writer’s Craft

CONWAY — The lecture series Building Great Sentences: Exploring the Writer’s Craft will return to the Faulkner County Library at 2 p.m. This video lecture series, hosted by Brooks Landon of the University of Iowa, explores writing from its most basic component: the sentence. Driver Safety Program

HEBER SPRINGS — There will be an AARP Driver Safety Program class from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the McCoy Room of the Administration/Student Services Building at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs. Individuals 55 and older who complete the course will qualify for a three-year discount on their automobile-insurance premiums in Arkansas. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. Community Yard Sale

ADONA — A communitywide yard sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Adona City Park on Arkansas 10 West. In case of rain, the sale will be held June 8. Booth space is available for rent by calling (501) 662-4796 or (501) 662-4888. Proceeds will benefit the Adona Volunteer Fire Department.

Friends of NRA Dinner

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas River Valley Friends of the National Rifle Association dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Hughes Center, 1000 E. Parkway. The event will include games, raffles, drawings and more. Pancake Breakfast

ATKINS — A Picklefest Pancake Breakfast will be held from 6:30-11 a.m. in the Atkins Catholic Church’s McKee Hall on U.S. 64. The menu will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, homemade pork sausage, coffee, orange juice and milk for $5 per person.

Bean Supper

PLUMERVILLE — The Plumerville Homecoming Committee will host its annual bean supper fundraiser from 4-7 p.m. in the WC Plummer Senior Center east of the Arch Ford Co-op. The menu consists of pinto beans, home-fried potatoes, slaw, cornbread, dessert and a drink. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12. Proceeds will benefit the senior center. Retired Teachers Association Meeting

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Retired Teachers Association will meet for a traditional potluck meal at 1:30 p.m. in the Activity Center of First Baptist Church. MORRILTON — The Sacred Heart School Bazaar will take orders for whole slow-smoked Boston butts through noon Friday. Each 8- to 10-pound Boston butt costs $30 and will feed 15 to 20 people. RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department is selling individual pool passes for $75 each for the M.J. Hickey Pool. Reservations for private pool parties are also available. Sacred Heart School Bazaar

MORRILTON — Sacred Heart School will host a bazaar from 6-11 p.m. May 31 and from 5 p.m. to midnight June 1 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church parking lot, 506 E. Broadway. There will be food; games; a silent auction; and a Kiddie Land, featuring a petting zoo, a basketball shoot, a bounce house, a dunking booth and more. An all-you-can-eat dinner will be served from 5-8:30 p.m. June 1 only. Boxed dinners will be delivered from 4-6:30 p.m. The dinner costs $13 for adults and $6 for children ages 4-12. Children 3 and younger may eat free.
