An 18-year-old North Little Rock man is facing an array of charges including attempted capital murder after he fired multiple rounds from an AK-47 during a robbery attempt, police said.
That crime was one in a wave of armed robberies Taz Leslie Marteny is accused of committing in North Little Rock, Maumelle and Cabot.
Marteny was arrested about 7 p.m. Wednesday on Frank Street after a chase that ended with him being stunned with a Taser, Pulaski County sheriff's office Lt. Cody Burk said.
Authorities say Marteny on Tuesday went to a residence in the 5000 block of Batesville Pike with the intention of committing robbery.
"The victim advised that Taz had beat him in the head with an unknown object and then went outside and pulled an AK-47 assault rifle out of his car," Burk said in a statement. "The victim advised that he tried to get the rifle away from the suspect and the suspect fired several rounds while they were struggling over it."
The victim was not hit by the gunfire, but he did suffer a wound to his head during the struggle.
In addition to the attempted murder count, Marteny is facing charges of second-degree battery, aggravated assault and attempted robbery in that case.
Police say Marteny faces additional charges after confessing to robbing a Shell gas station, a liquor store and a bar in North Little Rock as well as a gas station in Cabot and a Waffle House in Maumelle.
Marteny had the AK-47 with him in at least two of those crimes, authorities said.
