Ex-Tuckerman officer arrested in gun theft

TUCKERMAN — Authorities say a former Tuckerman police officer has been arrested over the disappearance of a number of pistols from the Arkansas Municipal Police Association firing range.

An arrest affidavit obtained by The Jonesboro Sun shows that Joe Kevin Wixson of Swifton was arrested Wednesday.

The affidavit says that Wixson was chairman of the firing range and responsible for care of 10 pistols. State police say Wixson told investigators that he pawned six of the 10 guns that were given to him by the association.

Tuckerman Police Chief Jonathan Tubbs said Wixson worked in his department for 18 months until mid-October, when he resigned. For four months prior to that, the chief said Wixson was on medical leave.

No listed phone number for Wixson could be located.
