Felon had gun in Little Rock school, police say

A felon was arrested Thursday after he was found to have possessed a gun at a function at his child's Little Rock school, authorities said.

Little Rock police say Zyphria Derrick Watts, 39, faces charges of possession of a handgun on school property and possession of a firearm by a certain person.

Watts was attending an assembly at Pulaski Heights Middle School Thursday morning when police received information that he may be armed, Little Rock Police Department spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said.

Police made contact with Watts and he acknowledged having a gun on him, according to an arrest report. Officers then patted him down and found a .40-caliber pistol inside his overalls, a separate incident report said.

According to that report, Watts was also wanted on a failure-to-appear warrant out of Little Rock and an FBI warrant "for dangerous drugs."

He remained in the Pulaski County jail Thursday afternoon with bail not set.
