Boy dies from dog attack injuries in White County

A child has died following a dog attack Friday afternoon at a White County residence, police said.

About 3:24 p.m., police received a report that a small child had been attacked by several dogs while visiting a residence at Piker Lane in Bradford, the White County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Chief Deputy Phillip E. Miller told Arkansas Online that the child was a boy, about four years old in age, and was visiting the home with his mother, when the boy "exited [the] house and [was] attacked by dogs."

It was not immediately clear how the child left the house, Miller said. He said three dogs were present and that they were not on a leash.

Police are investigating how many of the dogs were involved in the attack, he said.

The Bradford Fire Department and NorthStar EMS responded to the report and began treating the boy when they arrived for unspecified injuries, according to the news release. The boy was taken by ambulance to the White County Medical Center in Searcy where he later died from his injuries.

An investigation is ongoing, and the dogs are being held at the White County Sheriff's Department, the release states.
