2 charged in fatal Memphis drive-by shooting

Two men were charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in a Nov. 2 shooting in Memphis that left a woman dead and a man injured, police said.

Joshua Potts, 18, and Marico Spencer, 22, were charged with first-degree murder, two counts each of attempted murder and employment of a firearm in a drive-by shooting that occurred near Barron Avenue and Meadow Drive, Memphis Police Department spokesman Sgt. Alyssa Macon-Moore said in a statement.

On Nov. 2, Memphis officers were called about 6:15 p.m. to the Barron and Meadow area, where they found Shakita Blackmon, 23, and a 25-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds, Macon-Moore said.

The two, along with a 21-year-old woman, were driving in the area when a vehicle pulled alongside them, fired multiple shots and struck the two sitting in the front seat, Macon-Moore said. The 21-year-old, who was in the backseat, was not injured, police said.

Blackmon died Nov. 10 of her injuries; the 25-year-old male was released from the Regional Medical Center after treatment.

Potts and Spencer are being held in the Shelby County jail and are scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Shelby County sheriff's office website.
