Craigslist phone deal turns into armed robbery, police say

A deal to buy a phone advertised for sale on the online classified website Craigslist turned into a robbery when the purported seller pulled a gun, authorities said.

It happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday outside Franklin Elementary, a Little Rock school at 1701 S. Harrison St. where the pair agreed to meet, according to a Little Rock police report.

The 26-year-old victim told investigators he traveled to Little Rock to buy the phone after spotting the online ad. The report says the victim lives in Monticello.

Police said the robber displayed the white phone but then pulled out a handgun and demanded the would-be buyer's cash.

The victim "threw the money" at the robber and then drove off, the report said.

The robber got away with $400. He's described as a black man who stood about 6 feet tall and was wearing a jacket with an unknown sports team on it and jeans.
