Woman shot in robbery attempt charged in multiple hold-ups

A Little Rock woman has been charged in a string of armed robberies in recent weeks that came to an end when she was shot during one of them, authorities said.

Markita Sanders, 20, was booked into the Pulaski County jail shortly after 7:30 p.m. on six counts of aggravated robbery and four counts of theft of property.

A Little Rock Police Department arrest report said Sanders was shot "during a robbery of the Zimmerman Exxon" in Little Rock. She was arrested after being treated and released from UAMS Medical Center.

According to a Little Rock Police Department report, two clerks at the store said Sanders came in shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday and pointed a handgun at them at which point they both "pulled their sidearms and fired multiple shots at her."

Sanders ran from the business and was found on the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound to her buttocks, the report said.

The arrest report for Sanders included case numbers tying her to the robbery where she was shot and several other recent holdups. They are:

• An Oct. 19 armed robbery of the Shell station at 9718 N. Rodney Parham Road.

• An Oct. 21 attempted armed robbery of the Dollar General at 9500 Satterfield Road.

• A Nov. 17 armed robbery of the Shell at 9718 N. Rodney Parham Road.

• A Thursday armed robbery of the Exxon at 7600 Cantrell Road.

• A Thursday armed robbery of the Exxon at 7224 Geyer Springs Road.

Police say Sanders admitted to the robberies. She remained in the Pulaski County jail Tuesday morning with bail not yet set.
