Benton man accused of drugging, sexually assaulting minor

A Benton man is accused of supplying a boy with illegal drugs and then sexually assaulting him.

James Gilliam, 32, purportedly approached the unidentified boy near Tyndall Park in Benton recently, according to a statement from the Benton Police Department. The victim said the two then went to Gilliam’s residence, where Gilliam gave the boy illegal narcotics and sexually assaulted him, the news release states.

An investigation led to Gilliam’s subsequent arrest and a search warrant was served on his home, where various items were seized as evidence in the case, according to police.

Gilliam is charged with rape, introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person, possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, according to the release — and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Saline County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
