Pangos' 34 propels Gonzaga past Arkansas

— Kevin Pangos scored a career-high 34 points and No. 11 Gonzaga pulled away from Arkansas in the second half to win 91-81 Wednesday at the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.

Pangos scored 19 of his points after halftime. The junior guard made 7 of 8 attempts from 3-point range, including back-to-back treys midway through the second half to spark a 9-0 run that doubled the Bulldogs' lead from 9 to 18 points.

Arkansas pulled with 48-43 on a Bobby Portis basket and foul with 15:46 remaining, but the Razorbacks could get no closer. Portis finished with a game-high 18 points, including 12 in the second half.

Portis and freshman Moses Kingsley finished with 7 rebounds each. Arkansas out-rebounded Gonzaga 40-35 and the Razorbacks finished with 19 offensive rebounds.

Gonzaga (6-1) led 38-31 at halftime. The Bulldogs held Arkansas to 11 of 34 shooting in the first half despite the Razorbacks gathering 10 offensive rebounds and forcing 7 turnovers.

The Razorbacks (4-2) finished the game making 31 of 72 field goal attempts, including 4 of 21 from 3-point range. Gonzaga made 54.5 percent of its shots, including 60 percent of its 3-point attempts.

Forward Sam Dower Jr. scored 19 points and guard Gary Bell Jr. added 13 points for the Bulldogs. Alandise Harris scored 18 points for the Razorbacks, Michael Qualls had 13 points and Coty Clarke finished with 11 points. Kingsley had a career-high 9 points.

The game was the first ever between the two programs. Arkansas finished the trip to Maui with a 1-2 record.

The Razorbacks won't play again until Dec. 3 with a home game against Southeastern Louisiana.
