Parents or guardians who want to check whether their car seats are safe and properly installed will have a chance to run them past experts this weekend, the North Little Rock Police Department has said.
The department, along with the Arkansas Highway Safety Office, is putting on a child safety-seat check from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the southeast corner of the McCain Mall parking lot, 3929 McCain Blvd., next to the Firestone store.
Certified safety-seat technicians will be there to make sure seats haven't been recalled, are the right size for each child and are installed properly, the department said.
Safe Kids Worldwide, a Washington-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing unintentional injury in children, says 73 percent of car seats aren't used or installed correctly.
Putting children in age- and size-appropriate car seats and booster seats cuts the chances of serious and fatal injuries by more than half, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
