The Interstate 30 bridge traffic over the Arkansas River was halted briefly after a tug boat struck a protective barrier of the bridge, authorities said.
Lt. Carl Minden with the Pulaski County sheriff's office confirmed that a boat did strike the bridge Thursday afternoon about 3:20 p.m. Traffic in both directions was halted for about 45 minutes while officials with the sheriff's office, Game and Fish Commission, Coast Guard, Corps of Engineers and state Highway and Transportation Department investigated the claim.
Arkansas State Police confirmed in a tweet shortly before 5 p.m. that the bridge was reopening.
Minden said traffic on the bridge should be returning to normal. However, the Arkansas Online live traffic map shows several surrounding streets are congested as a result of the closure.
