2 injured in plane crash near Florida tailgaters

GAINESVILLE — Two people are hospitalized after a small plane towing a banner crashed near tailgaters gathered for the Florida football game against Arkansas.

University of Florida Police Chief Linda Stump says the plane's propeller stopped and the pilot tried to make an emergency landing in Flavet Field.

Stump says the plane rolled on the ground and bounced into a tree-filled area south of the band shell. No injuries on the ground were reported.

Stump says both people aboard the plane were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Katy Crannell was one of the tailgaters near the crash. She tells The Gainesville Sun that they only heard the crash and never heard the plane coming in.

No. 18 Florida is playing its first night game in the Swamp in nearly two years.
