Restaurant robbery attempt stymied by alarm

Authorities in Hope are looking for a man who purportedly held up two restaurant employees and tried to burglarize their workplace Saturday before a security alarm scared him away.

The employees were leaving Domino's Pizza, 1002 S. Main St., about 11:45 p.m. when they were approached by a 5-foot-7 black man wearing a black hooded shirt, black gloves and a black mask, according to a statement from the Hope Police Department.

Both employees said the robber threatened them with "something believed to be a weapon" and demanded money, police said. The employees then told the robber the money was inside a safe in the restaurant, and he forced them to open the door, according to the news release.

When the security alarm sounded, the robber fled on foot — escaping only with one of the employee's wallets, police said.

Police didn't find the robber. Those with information in this case may contact the Hope Police Department at (870) 722-2563.
