MARMADUKE — A Marmaduke man has won $1 million in the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
Lottery officials said Wednesday that Donald Duke claimed the prize after purchasing a $20 Millionaire Madness ticket at a Quik Stop in Marmaduke.
Duke said he had not planned to buy the ticket originally, but his granddaughter insisted he buy that specific one, according to a news release from lottery officials. It wasn't until later that day that Duke discovered he was a million-dollar winner, officials said.
Duke said in the release that he plans to make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and save and invest the remaining funds.
