Authorities have activated a Morgan Nick Amber Alert after a 5-year-old boy went missing from his Sebastian County home early Thursday.
The Sebastian County sheriff's office says Quinn Whitsitt was asleep in his bed when his grandfather checked on him at 1 a.m., but he was gone at 6 a.m. Police say both the interior and exterior garage doors of the Central City home were then found open.
Police say it's possible the boy's non-custodial mother, Rainy Whitsitt, may have taken the boy or that her "possible boyfriend" Rodney Romero is involved. Search crews are also combing the area around the home in case the boy wandered off on his own, authorities said.
"We've got people on the ground as well," said Philip Pevehouse, a spokesman for the Sebastian County sheriff's office. "Anything's possible at this point."
Pevehouse said investigators are checking leads in other states and working with multiple other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Arkansas State Police. He said he did not believe any attempts to reach Rainy Whitsitt had been successful.
Quinn is described as a white male who stands about 3-foot-1 and weighs 42 pounds. He has short, dark brown hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing blue pajama pants with a white tank top on backward.
Rainy Whitsitt is described as a 25-year-old white female who stands 5-foot-1 with brown hair and brown eyes. She may be driving a 2010 Toyota Camry with a New Mexico license plate.
Romero, 47, may be driving a 2013 Ford CMAX that may be unlicensed, police said.
