NORTH LITTLE ROCK No matter the pace of the game, it was hard for Jonesboro to stop North Little Rock from scoring on Friday night.
On their first offensive play of the game, Charging Wildcats' quarterback Heath Land hit receiver K.J. Hill for a 48-yard touchdown pass. To start the second half, North Little Rock put together a 13-play, 75-yard drive that ended on a 1-yard run by Deion Tidwell. The two scores helped North Little Rock roll past the Golden Hurricane, 30-6.
Both teams weathered lackluster first halves with big plays that got them early scores.
The Charging Wildcats (4-2, 2-1 7A/6A East) scored twice in the first half despite being held to -10 yards rushing. Jonesboro (3-3, 1-2) managing 18 yards on the ground in the first half, but got their lone score of the half on a 1-yard TD run by Rodderick Pope, which was set up in part by Pope on a 19-yard completion from quarterback Reed Wingo on 4th and 10 that got the Golden Hurricane to the 1-yard line.
Hill set up the Charging Wildcats' second touchdown of the half on a 31-yard pass — which started on a lateral from Land — to running back Deion Tidwell. Land's 8-yard pass to Devohn Lindsey on the next play put them in the end zone.
The Charging Wildcats led 16-6 at halftime and controlled the game from the outset after intermission, going 75 yards on 13 plays on their opening drive and capping it off with a 1-yard touchdown dive by Tidwell.
The Charging Wildcats made it 30-6 midway through the third quarter when Land threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Lindsey, a 27-yard connection on 4th and 17 with 5:08 left in the quarter to cap the scoring.
