One man was killed and three other Siloam Springs residents were injured from a car wreck on Saturday night in Benton County, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 9:35 p.m. in dry and clear conditions, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality crash report.
Police say an unidentified driver of a 1995 Oldsmobile vehicle was traveling east on U.S. 412 with Siloam Springs residents Mark E. Douthit, 51, and Chad A Douthit, 20. The Oldsmobile driver attempted to make a left turn onto Arkansas 68 when the driver purportedly failed to yield to a westbound 1989 Chevrolet vehicle.
The report states that Chevrolet struck the front of the Oldsmobile, sending both vehicles toward a ditch from the impact.
Mark E. Douthit died from the car wreck, authorities said. Chad Douthit, the Chevrolet's driver Wesley E. Pickard, 21, and passenger Christina J. Heekelhiner, 19, were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center to be treated for unspecified injuries.
Mark E. Douthit's death marks the 361st fatality in traffic accidents on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary reports.
