Style: Black Oak Arkansas

Black Oak Arkansas, along with those like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers, helped create a new musical genre known as Southern rock during the height of their popularity between 1971 and 1978, Linda S. Haymes writes in Tuesday's Style section.

They aren’t done yet.

“We never really stopped performing,” says original guitarist and co-founder Rickie Lee Reynolds, nearly 65 and living in Memphis. “We’ve continued to play gigs and began writing new music for an album four or five years ago even though we weren’t signed to a label.”

More than 40 years after forming, Black Oak Arkansas releases that new album, Back Thar n’ Over Yonder, on Tuesday and will be performing at Little Rock's Revolution Room this weekend.
