Shortly after canceling the evening's featured concert due to inclement weather in the forecast, State Fair officials decided to close the main fairgrounds at 5 p.m. as well.
Officials with the event decided to shut down the fair for the evening because of a weather system passing over central Arkansas that is expected to bring more rain as night falls, State Fair General Manager Ralph Shoptaw said in a statement.
While the main fairgrounds will be closed, the regional pageant competition, youth talent show and livestock activities will resume as planned, Shoptaw said. Anyone attending those events should use Gate 11.
Fair officials had already canceled the evening's featured concert, Riverbilly, shortly after 4 p.m. due to the forecast. The band's contractual commitments would not allow for the show to be rescheduled.
The fair is expected to reopen at 11 a.m. Wednesday, officials said.
