A pedestrian has been fatally struck by a vehicle on Interstate 40 near the Interstate 30 interchange, snarling traffic in the area.
Police on scene say the unidentified pedestrian was on the highway when he was hit by a car that then veered off the right side of eastbound I-40 just east of I-30.
The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say it's unclear why the man was on the interstate.
The two right-hand lanes of the highway are blocked, backing up traffic on I-40 and I-30.
