Authorities responding to a noise complaint at a Benton apartment complex early Sunday morning came across an armed robbery in progress, leading to one arrest, the Benton Police Department said in a statement Monday.
Police arrived at Fountain Lake Apartments, located at 3011 Congo Road, about 1:50 a.m. Sunday in response to a loud music complaint, according to the news release.
While the officers were outside, they heard a second-story window open and saw people fleeing from the building, police said. Authorities chased after the group of people and arrested one man, 23-year-old Ryan Walker of Little Rock.
An investigation determined that the group had "forced their way" into the apartment and that at least one person displayed a black pistol, Benton Police Department spokesman Lt. Kevin Russell said.
Walker purportedly had held the unidentified white male victim at the apartment while the robbers stole an undisclosed amount of items and money, Russell said. He added that the robbers knew the victim.
Because officers arrived while the robbery was in progress, the robbers left some of the stolen items behind before jumping out of the window to escape, according to the news release.
Russell said Walker had marijuana in his possession when he was captured and the department is still trying to determine how many people were involved in the robbery. Authorities know of at least one possible suspect, and two to three more may be involved, Russell said.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities seek other people believed to be involved in the robbery.
