3.85-carat diamond unearthed by teen

MURFREESBORO - A 14-year-old girl from Oklahoma City found a 3.85-carat canary diamond Monday while searching the surface at Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Tana Clymer told park officials that she spent about two hours digging and sifting, then about 10 minutes scanning the ground before she noticed the teardrop-shaped gem she named the “God’s Jewel diamond.”

“I thought it was a piece of paper or foil from a candy wrapper,” she said in a Tuesday news release. “Then, when I touched it, I thought it was a marble.

“I think God pointed me to it. I was about to sprint to join my family, and God told me to slow down and look. Then, I found the diamond.”

The gem is the 396th diamond found so far this year. On average, two diamonds are found a day by park visitors, according to the news release. The colors of diamonds found at the park are white, brown and yellow, in that order.
