Arkansas achievers

Shannya Williams of Earle, a University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff ROTC cadet, received a LTG Edward Honor Leadership Award presented by the ROCKS Foundation. The award includes a $1,500 stipend and a LTG Edward Honor trophy. Cadet Williams is a biology major and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Chemical Corps and serve on active duty upon graduation.

The Department of Nursing at the University of Central Arkansas announced the award of five scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students:

Linda Fuller of Conway received the Clara M. Forsberg Nursing Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year acknowledging academic performance and demonstration of high professional standards.

Ricketta Morgan of Conway received the University of Central Arkansas Lauretta Koenigseder Nursing Scholarship acknowledging academic performance and demonstration of quality nursing care and professionalism.

Sharon Aureli of Little Rock received the Department of Nursing Graduate Clinical Excellence Award for exceptional clinical performance.

Shelbi Carpenter-Van-Pelt of Conway received the Hawk-McCaslin Nursing Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year. The scholarship recognizes graduate nursing students who demonstrate high academic and professional standards.

Randa Litton of Greenbrier received the University of Central Arkansas Department of Nursing Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award for demonstrating the greatest potential for becoming a leader within professional nursing.

Laura Tarpley of Little Rock, a communication studies major at Young Harris College in Georgia, received the Lambda Pi Eta Outstanding Scholar Award and the Interfaith Award. She is recognized for outstanding academic performance and for involvement in the promotion of interfaith work and cooperation on campus. She is the daughter of David and Heather Tarpley of Little Rock.

The following students received Incentive Scholarships from Arkansas State University-Newport:

Joanna Norris of Tuckerman, the daughter of Joey Walter and Jamie and Eva Norris Henrikson, plans to study animal science.

Haley Huckabee of Newport, the daughter of David and Teresa Huckabee, plans to enter the school’s practical nursing program.

David Sharp of Newport, the son of Ray and Gena Sharp, plans to major in psychology.

Jalen Ivy of Grubbs, the son of Anthony Ivy, plans to pursue a degree in engineering.

Ashley Carter of Jonesboro received the Mary Mooney Memorial Scholarship worth $1,000 from Out of the Dark Inc. for her outstanding contributions in her school and community in fighting chemical addiction. She is the daughter of Donna Carter of Jonesboro and plans to attend Arkansas State University.

Dr. Jim Stockton received the 2013 Ozarks Ambassador Award from North Arkansas College in recognition of the many ways he represented the college and the area with distinction during his career. For more than 35 years, Stockton served as a coach, instructor, public relations director, vice president for institutional advancement and interim president and helped move North Arkansas College forward.

Sydney Davis of Little Rock received the Jewel Minnis Scholarship from the University of Arkansas in recognition of her academic achievements. Davis, a graduate of Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock, plans to major in architecture at the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas.

Gabrielle Hornsby of Bentonville received a vocal music scholarship as a nonmajor from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. She is the daughter of Laymon and Veliscia Hornsby.

Emily Snyder of Cabot received a Southern Arkansas University Hallman Scholarship, which provides $10,000 annually to a female student in the College of Science and Technology. Snyder is a chemistry major and will pursue a career in pharmacy. She is the daughter of Jayne Snyder and the late George Snyder.

Taylor McNeel of Vilonia received a Southern Arkansas University Hallman Scholarship, which provides $10,000 annually to a female student in the College of Science and Technology. McNeel is pursuing a double major in agriculture science and agriculture business and plans to become an advocate for agriculture policy and legislation. She is the daughter of John and Laura McNeel of Vilonia.

Senior Airman Wendy Lyons of North Little Rock received the 2013 AT&T War Memorial Scholarship administered by Arkansas Community Foundation. Lyons is pursuing a double major in small business management and professional/ technical writing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Alan Fortenberry, chief executive officer for Beaver Water District serving Northwest Arkansas, has been inducted into the Glen T. Kellogg Water & Wastewater Hall of Fame. With more than 40 years of experience in the industry, he has worked on the state agency regulatory side, the private consulting engineering side, and the public utility side of the profession.

Keith Bramwell, extension reproductive physiologist, and Lanier Nalley, associate professor, were named Outstanding International Education Faculty Award winners in the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas. Nalley is in the agricultural economics and agribusiness department while Bramwell is in the poultry science department. Both received $3,000 from the Bumpers College to support their international efforts of creating sustainable business development in Africa while producing a protein product for social and health value in low-income countries.
