A California-based company that specializes in manufacturing frozen bakery products will open a new production facility in Springdale, creating 150 jobs, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission announced in a news release Wednesday.

South Coast Baking Co. plans to invest $8.7 million into the project, which will be the Irvine, Calif.-based company's second production facility, according to the release. The company will occupy a 104,000-square-foot building at 800 S. 40th St.

All jobs will carry an average wage of $25 per hour, the release states.

A news conference was held at the future facility Wednesday morning to announce the project.

"South Coast Baking's decision to locate in Springdale adds to Arkansas's reputation as a hub for food manufacturers," Gov. Mike Beebe said. "The combination of our skilled workforce and a central location for product distribution continues to draw companies here."

South Coast Baking Co. is the exclusive producer of frozen cookie dough for Mrs. Fields, and is also a supplier for Sam's Club and Panera Bread, the release states.

The company is planning for the facility to be in production by July 2014.
