Teri Chambers, a public defender representing Kinsey, said she told Circuit Judge Stephen Taborof Fort Smith on Monday that the defense needed more time. Chambers said Kinsey’s defense team has 250 people to interview and thousands of pages of documents to pore through.

Chambers and Katherine Streett are representing Kinsey through the Arkansas Public Defender Commission.

Tabor granted their request.

Kinsey, 20, is charged with two counts of capital murder in the slashing deaths of Nathan Young, 32, and Brandon Prince, 39, outside their north Fort Smith homes.

According to police, Kinsey killed the two men with a machete after they confronted him on the street in the 1600 block of North D Street.

The state is seeking the death penalty for Kinsey, who is being held without bail in the Sebastian County jail.
