Retired colonel to talk on dissent

Retired Col. Ann Wright will speak on “The Role of Dissent in Democracy: From Working Within the System to Resignation” on Monday at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.

Wright was the U.S. deputy ambassador in Sierra Leone and received the State Department’s Award for Heroism for her actions during the evacuation of 2,500 people from the civil war in that country. She helped reopen the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan in December 2001. She resigned in March 2003 because she objected to U.S. military action in Iraq. She has been writing and speaking for peace since then.

She will speak at noon at Sturgis Hall at the Clinton School at 1200 President Clinton Ave. in Little Rock.

Seats for the event can be reserved by emailing publicprograms@clintonschool.uasys.edu or calling (501) 683-5239.
